A15-34 available to Summerfuit growers
A15-34, introduced in 2004 in the UK by Redeva, is now available to Summerfruit Company growers. A15-34 is a patented variety - propagation is prohibited - bred by CIV.

Plant: medium vigour, upright growth form. The foliage shows a deep green colour, never chlorotic. Blossom is very abundant and of long duration, with erected flowers. Good productivity.
a15-34: strawberry
Flower: above the foliage, with a large corolla, rich in pollen.

Blossoming season: medium (= Elsanta).

Fruit: Large, very regular conical shaped. Very firm. Brix: 9.0. Skin colour: glossy scarlet/red. Flesh colour: red. Taste: juicy, perfumed taste

Harvest: medium (=Elsanta).

Overall assessment: A15-34 is productive with a good and constant size. This Cultivar has proved to be suitable for different growing techniques and it can grant a second summer yield. Waiting bed and A+ plants are suitable for out of season productions( Autumn production and hydroponic culture).
Excellent results have been obtained with misted tips planted end July-early August.

Elsinore and Elsegarde for profitable summerproduction
Planted end March - half April the strawberry plants are generally debloomed until early May. Only the first small flowers are removed. Trayplants have a strong regrowth and achieve fast a good growth/production balance.

Production starts about 10 weeks after planting or about 7-8 weeks after the last deblooming. Of course the timing of deblooming, intensity of deblooming and the weatherconditions (and hence flower initiation) play all an important role in the exact timing.
However generally production starts end June - early July. This means that production starts at the end of the normal season. The following graph is based on data of the PCF research station in 2004. A plant density of 3 pl/m² was used.
grafiek Elsinore productie 2004
For soil production a planting density of 14 plants/acre is recommended. For soilless production 8 plants/running meter are advised. Over the past 3 years soil productions were on average above 1.5 kg/plant or 21 ton/acre!

On table tops production reaches 8 kg/m supermarket quality!

Late plantings are often kept for a second year. In the second year Elsinore® starts cropping very early. After the first flush production will in that case stop for 4 weeks but continue after that period until the end of the growing season.

Fertigation Elsinore® is extremely productive and hence needs a very intensive and well balanced fertigation. The use of foliar fertilizers is highly recommended and probably inevitable seen the production capacity. Mistakes in the fertigation can result in misshapen fruit. For details on optimal fertigation and an appropriate foliar program contact Your local consultant or Idris.

clery Clery: very early, good flavour
One of the parents of the strawberry variety Clery® is Elsanta, giving this variety the good commercial fruit characteristics. However, as Clery® is a june bearer with only a medium chilling requirement, it starts cropping very early.

The plant is of medium vigour, erect habit and medium density. The leaves are of a medium green colour and bright. The productivity is high.

Flowers: flowers are at the same level as foliage, of medium size, very rich in pollen. This results in a good fruit setting even in very early production sytems.

Flowering saison: very early with concentrated production. Clery® is 7 to 10 days earlier than Elsanta.

Fruit: the fruit is of conical and very regular. The color is bright red. The fruit size is medium-big, between Elsanta and Darselect. Firm fruit with excellent taste.

graph fruit quality

Shelf life: good shelf life.

Production potential: high production capacity, between Elsanta and Darselect.

Ripening time: Clery is a very early strawberry variety. For full field production the earliest productions are achieved when using plug plants.

graph fruit grade
Overall assessment: variety suitable for very early production in north european environments characterized by an excellent combination of good flavour, productivity and commercial characteristics.
For greenhouse production a system with chilled trayplants planted end December production end February-early March could be possible.
Also in tunnel systems and full field very early productions of good quality are obtained

Early glasshouse production

August planting greenhouse: both frigo A+ and trays can be used for a planting in August. Plant density is 16 plants/m for A+, 12 plants/m for trays.

December/January planting with trayplants: A planting end December with trayplants gives an even earlier production.

Early Augustplanting of misted tips on bags: the earliest productions are achieved with plug plants planted on peat bags (pots/containers) early August on a waiting bed. 12 plants/m.
