Elsinore, Elsegarde, Clery, A15-34 in soil and on table tops: leaf analysis is important In North Europe we have quite some experience with fertigation both in soil and peat grown Elsanta. Based on soil or water analysis we calculate the correct fertigation needs. However, even with our clever computers on our knowledge of chemistry we are sometimes surprised of interactions between nutriens, soil and peat that we did not expect or, worse, even do not understand.
For this reason we advise the growers always to have at the start of the flowering a good check of the crop. And if they ahve any doubts to discuss this with the farm advisor and to have samples taken for analysis.
A15-34 available to Summerfuit growersIn case of serious doubts or problems we advise to have samples analysed from soil/peat and leaf analysis. Combination of those results can give information on how to correct the situation. When growing new varieties as Elsinore, Elsegarde, Clery, A15-34.....extra attention should be paid to this issue. Growers having plant material from Idris can always send the reports of the analysis to us for a second opinion. With our experience of new CIV varieties all over Europe we can give usefull information to your farm advisor. Last remark! Ask the laboratory to have the analyses done fast and to send them directly by email or fax. It has no sense in having the information when the crop is finished! A15-34, introduced in 2004 in the UK by Redeva, is now available to Summerfruit Company growers. A15-34 is a patented variety - propagation is prohibited - bred by CIV.
Waiting bed plantsPlant: medium vigour, upright growth form. The foliage shows a deep green colour, never chlorotic. Blossom is very abundant and of long duration, with erected flowers. Good productivity.
Mazzoni has developed a new type waiting bed plants giving high yields but combined with a high percentage grade A fruit. Those heavy waiting bed plants give excellent results as a 60 day crops. Several glasshouse growers use those heavy waiting bed plants also for a December planting, giving a very early Elsanta production. Production of those plants is only on order. When you have such problems in your strawberries, you should discuss with your advisor on how to avoid them in the future. Good results to correct such problems have been achieved with 2 foliar fertilizers: Omnical and Kappa G.
Omnical is a chelate of calcium. Kappa G is a foliar fertilizer making the plant more generative. The calcium chelate can correct a bad (albino) coloring of the fruits and improves the firmness of the fruit. Kappa G is added to improve the uptake of the calcium chelate and makes the plants, often to vegetative because of a high N level or an unbalance, more generative. The Kappa G has also a positive influence on the brix level of the fruits. Planted end March - half April the plants are generally debloomed until early May. Only the first small flowers are removed.
Trayplants have a strong regrowth and achieve fast a good growth/production balance.
Ecotrays from Italian Po-valley: spectacular resultsProduction starts about 10 weeks after planting or about 7-8 weeks after the last deblooming. Of course the timing of deblooming, intensity of deblooming and the weatherconditions (and hence flower initiation) play all an important role in the exact timing. However generally production starts end June - early July. This means that production starts at the end of the normal season. read on... Ecotrays are produced in the Italian Po-valley by Vivai Mazzoni and Salvi Vivai. Although they are raised in smaller trays (145 ml) and at a higher plant density in the nursery, the results are remarkably good because of the high ligth intensities and the longer growing season in the Po valley.

Misted tips are available from half July on. read on... Clery: very early, good flavour One of the parents of Clery ® is Elsanta, giving this variety the good commercial fruit characteristics. However, as Clery ® is a june bearer with only a medium chilling requirement, it starts cropping very early.
The plant is of medium vigour, erect habit and medium density. The leaves are of a medium green colour and bright. The productivity is high. Flowers are at the same level as foliage, of medium size, very rich in pollen. This results in a good fruit setting even in very early production sytems.
Flowering saison: very early with concentrated production. Clery ® is 7 to 10 days earlier than Elsanta. Fruit: the fruit is of conical and very regular. The color is bright red. The fruit size is medium-big, between Elsanta and Darselect. Firm fruit with excellent taste. read on... |
